Given the range of partners and donor investment in maternal and newborn health and the critical importance of ensuring an integrated approach to the newborn health agenda and, more specifically, the PTB and LBW agenda, Every Preemie—SCALE will engage an Advisory Committee to ensure that linkages for coordination and collaboration are effectively established and maintained.
The Advisory Committee will provide programmatic, strategic and technical advice to the Every Preemie—SCALE program team over the five-year life of project on priority areas of action required to achieve the program’s overall strategic objective.
The first Every Preemie—SCALE Program Advisory Committee meeting was held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Washington, DC. It brought together over 20 esteemed colleagues in the field of maternal, newborn and child health from USAID/Washington/Bureau for Global Health, USAID-funded Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP), Saving Newborn Lives, USAID funded Pre-Eclampsia/Eclampsia Program, MDG Health Alliance, March of Dimes, Adara Group, USAID Child Blindness Program, Population Council, and Every-Preemie SCALE (PCI, GAPPS, ACNM). The Every Preemie—SCALE team introduced the goals and objectives of the program and reviewed key deliverables for year one for input from partners. The Advisory Committee members presented opportunities for global dialogue and action around newborn health, specifically PTB and LBW efforts, and explored opportunities for partner collaboration.
In the coming months, Every Preemie—SCALE will work with global partners to identify how best to engage the Advisory Committee moving forward.
