The inaugural meeting of the PTB TWG-ICS was held on May 1, 2015 in Washington DC, with over 60 global participants representing WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, USAID’s Maternal and Child Survival Program, Survive and Thrive Global Development Alliance, the Maternal Health Task Force, Saving Newborn Lives, and many others. The meeting introduced the goals, objectives and scope of the working group followed by an in-depth presentations and discussion on gestational age estimation in LICs. Members also brainstormed and prioritized implementation research topics for further consideration by the group and subgroups. Potential topics that are pressing include: ACS program implementation, PTB/LBW clinical training gaps, current programmatic challenges with bCPAP therapy, addressing integration issues between obstetric and pediatric clinical departments, high-value clinical care indicators/metrics for PTB/LBW, and others.
